Living in LA you see men and women in push carts or stands with coolers. Shout out to the Corn Man whose line is usually long. Elotes is corn on the cob while esquites is corn served in a cup or bowl. Since elotes basically has corn, mayonnaise, butter (or margarine, I hear), cheese, and spice(s), I wondered what an Asian interpretation would be.
Nothing says spring like an abundance of cheap cucumbers. I fell victim to that supermarket marketing troupe “X for a $1” In my case it was 7 cucumbers for $1. Shopping tip: If it says 7 for $1, you don’t have to get 7 unless it tells you that you have to for the price. You could buy just 1 cucumber for $0.142857142857.
A weird thing happened in Los Angeles last week. We saw clouds. It was gloomy for like three straight days. It even rained for almost a full five minutes. That got me thinking about comfort food and I started rummaging through my fridge. I started pulling out a few stray tomatoes I forgot I had in the drawer, half an onion from a previous recipe, and the last lone egg in the carton.
